Getting to and around Vieques

Most major airlines fly to San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU).

From there you can catch a flight on a smaller airline to Vieques' municipal airport (VQS) or take a taxi or private driver to Fajardo and board a passenger ferry for an 80 minute trip to Vieques.

Flights are also available from Fajardo (FDO) to Vieques

How can I get a taxi or private driver?

How does the passenger ferry work?

Visitors cannot bring a rental car on the cargo ferry.

Where is Vieques?

Friendly caution: you will want a car to get around Vieques as many of the beaches are re mote and public transportation is unreliable. Further, you will want to reserve on well in advance of your visit because sometimes demand exceeds supply. Unless you are coming at a time of high traffic, we recommend that you make prior arrangements for pick up at the airport/ferry dock, because at less buy hours the publicos may not be there when you arrive, and it can take quit a bit of time to call one. At busy times, go outside and “snag” your publico before you retrieve your bags, as they can fill up fast and you may be left waiting! We will be happy to assist you with arranging for a car reservation or a pick up.
